Samantha Moore's Venice home is a haven of neutral-toned, soothing, and light-filled spaces. Head of Brand & Partnerships at Jenni Kayne, her place is a nod to the brand's ethos of appreciating life's details and taking a minimalist approach to styling to concentrate on what matters most. So, we were excited to visit with Sam and see how she has incorporated a few of her favorite Lulu and Georgia rugs into her space. From using the Moroccan-inspired Afella and Ferro rugs in her living room and bedroom, pairing the Farmhouse Rug with her charming kitchen tile, and layering in the textural linen Sierra Rug into her newly renovated bathroom, we love how beautifully styled our pieces are. Read on for her looks, more on Sam's design style, and a few tips for those who are obsessed with Sam's home as we are.
Our Afella Rug looks right at home in your living room—what about it made you choose that rug for your living space and overall design style?
Thank you! I was really drawn to the organic pattern in the Afella Rug combined with its cream-colored, warm palette. I had even originally meant it for my guest room, but once it arrived, I fell in love with the texture and weight and decided it needed to be in a more central location!
How would you describe your home style?I
I would say my style is very California and very casual. My home is a 1920s beach cottage located in Venice, and I wanted to embrace that throughout the renovations and interior design choices. I’m sure it comes as no surprise to anyone, but I’m consistently drawn to a neutral palette and intentional pieces that I’ll have for years to come. I like my space to feel calming and not too cluttered, which is especially important when you’re working with 800 sq ft.
Any décor tips and tricks for those looking to achieve your minimal yet functional tips?
Stick to natural fibers, neutral colors, and plan out your space before making any major purchases. I find that when I don’t think about the holistic design of a room beforehand, I end up with buyer’s remorse and an unpleasant return process.
What's your favorite space in your home and why?
This home is the first time I’ve had real outdoor space, and I plan to take full advantage of it! My bedroom opens up to the garden, and I love that indoor-outdoor living. I hosted our family Thanksgiving this past year, and I can’t wait to have intimate dinner parties all summer long.
We love how your styling highlights the soft details and the simple linear design of our Ferra Rug, what drew you towards it?
The Ferra Rug is perfect if you’re looking for a piece that nods to a vintage Morrocan rug. I placed it under my bed—it’s so soft and feels super cozy during those chilly mornings.
You’ve perfectly balanced a neutral color palette with a pop of color in your kitchen—we love it. What inspired the tile in the kitchen, and how did you style your kitchen around it?
Sadly, I cannot take credit for the kitchen tile! It’s original to the home, and while it’s not my style, I’ve become rather attached to it. I updated the stainless steel appliances with vintage-inspired pieces by Smeg and ILVE to lean into that cottage feel and swapped out the dated faucet for a gold satin update by Perrin & Rowe. Luckily since the rest of my space is pretty neutral, the louder tile seems to work!
How does your work at Jenni Kayne influence your lifestyle and home style?
I’ve spent the majority of my 20s at Jenni Kayne (6 years!), and I feel like I’ve grown up with brand being a central part of my life. I’m constantly inspired by Jenni’s taste and the amazing women I’ve worked with for years. Our brand mission is to help women live well across all areas of their life, which means appreciating life’s details and simplifying things like your wardrobe and home decor so you can focus on what’s important to you. I try to live that way and hope my home is an embodiment of that sentiment!
Spring recipe you have on repeat?
Oh, it's the Coconut Miso Salmon Curry by Kay Chun.
Your home is a light-colored paradise, pro-tip on how to keep your light-colored pieces clean?
My pro-tip is to not worry about it :) There will inevitably be spills, and things will get messy, especially if you have animals or kids. I try not to be too precious about things, or else I’d feel like I was living in a museum—it’s important to me that my home feels lived-in and cozy! And if you’re stressed about that white couch, try creating a DIY slipcover with a painter’s drop cloth from Amazon.
What does the perfect day-off at home look like?!
Sleeping in, coffee in bed, hot yoga, and a day at the beach with my Kindle, followed by an outdoor dinner with friends and lots of natural wine.
