Artist Bio

Franz draws many inspirations from his time growing up in two parallel Los Angeles communities with deep culture and history. Forging a fascination with the simple, yet complex styles of Leo Politi and Yoshitaka Amano, he absorbed the world around him in as many shades as possible, ultimately processing and, in turn, translating that into "contradictory escapism on canvas". Franz enjoys working primarily in acrylics and watercolors, but also works with unconventional tools and methods while hybridizing traditional methods such as washes, palette knife application, and alla prima painting. In his free time he is playing drums and piano, hiking the many trails of our national parks, and playing with his turtles and cats.
